Are you seeking affordable cloud storage solutions for backing up data that doesn’t require frequent access? Are you tired of overspending on storage options that don’t fit your needs? We’re excited to announce the launch of our highly anticipated cold storage feature! This feature is purpose-built to help you manage your data more efficiently and cost-effectively, offering a practical way to store infrequently accessed information while reducing your overall storage costs. With cold storage, you can have peace of mind knowing that your important data is securely archived and available whenever you need it.
What is cold storage?
Cold storage is a storage solution optimized for long-term data retention, allowing admin users to store data that is not needed for immediate retrieval. Unlike active data storage, which is geared toward quick access to frequently used data, cold storage prioritizes cost savings over speed. Cold storage provides a highly cost-effective solution for data that doesn’t need to be accessed frequently. By moving infrequently accessed data to this storage option, clients can drastically reduce their storage costs.
Cold storage vs. Active storage
Understanding the differences between 3DVAULT Cold storage and Active storage is crucial for effective data management.
- Purpose: Active storage is optimized for quick access to frequently used data, making it ideal for ongoing projects. In contrast, cold storage is designed for long-term retention of infrequently accessed data, prioritizing cost savings over speed.
- Cost: Cold storage offers a more economical solution for archiving data, helping organizations save on storage costs. Active storage, while more expensive, provides the immediate access required for real-time projects.
- Retrieval process: Accessing data stored in cold storage is a straightforward process for admin users. They simply select the desired data, specify how long it should be available in Active storage, and 3DVAULT handles the rest, although retrieval may take up to 48 hours. In contrast, Active storage is designed for quick access to frequently used data, ensuring immediate availability for ongoing projects.
How to retrieve data from cold storage
Retrieving data from cold storage is straightforward. Here’s how it works:
- Open the cold storage tab: Admin users start by accessing the cold storage tab within 3DVAULT.
- Select the data: Next, the admin selects the specific data they want to move back to Active storage.
- Specify availability: The admin then specifies how many days the data should be available in Active storage.
- Data processing: Once the selection is made, 3DVAULT creates a copy of the data and adds it to Active storage. Users can access this copy during the specified period.
- Automatic deletion: After the specified number of days, the copy in Active storage is deleted automatically. Rest assured, the original version remains securely stored in cold storage for future access.
Our new cold storage feature is designed to help businesses like yours manage data successfully. By allowing for the secure and cost-effective storage of infrequently accessed data, we’re confident this feature will significantly enhance your data management capabilities.
